TRAVELLERS IN MALAYSIA
On a recent holiday with friends I have been able to enjoy very rewarding experiences which encompassed travelling on a bus to Singapore from Penang – staying in a cupboard which was the fire escape and then on to Kuala Lumpur to admire the Twin Towers (see photo) and the Jimmy Choo shoes! (No photo, messed up the lens with drooling).
In Penang I met very interesting people and enjoyed belly and line dancing as well as being able to participate in T’ai Chi in the Youth Park before indulging in yet more food.
My friends and I had intended taking the overnight train from Butterworth, Penang (being assured that it was an enjoyable way to travel to Thailand) to Hua Hin and then by tuk-tuk on to Cha’am. Due to unforeseen circumstances the train to Bangkok was cancelled on the day we were due to travel (Sunday). After my friends finished blaming me for jinxing our plans for a beach break, Carol said “OK we’ll go to Singapore”. From the ferry terminal we got the bus to Prangin Mall in Georgetown where the numerous coach ticket offices offer luxury coaches with individual entertainment panels and reclining seats at a very reasonable cost (£14 ish RM93). We travelled overnight and Monday morning we‘re in Singapore.
How’s that for flexible travel plans?
The reflexology walk in The Youth Park in Penang was infinitely more agonising than the one in Singapore and both obviously need a very experienced practitioner in meditation (and probably a medical practitioner when you’ve finished) but one has to attempt it.
Travelling around the Malaysian peninsular and Penang Island as well as to and from Singapore on the bus has allowed me a more enriching experience than I could have expected on a standard “package” holiday.
This has been one of the most rewarding and enjoyable holiday experiences and I am sure that given the opportunity many travellers to Malaysia would enjoy holidaying “on the buses”.
Elaine,
Kinston upon Hull. U.K.
