MALAYSIA MY SECOND HOME PROGRAMME
(MM2H)
I am a British citizen and I have held a five year second home programme since the year 2004. The 5 year MM2H visa was the only option open to me when I began my application at that time from the U. K. I received approval after 8 weeks but had to go to Malaysia to have my passport officially stamped.
By next year, 2009, I will be required to extend or renew my second home programme, for which purpose I needed to get reliable information. I had read various articles in newspapers and on web sites about the MM2H programme but had still not got the answers that I was looking for because in my case my application for the
programme was before the new ruling commenced which I had only heard about during the past year. I decided to go to the immigration office in Butterworth, taking with me only my passport carrying the MM2H stamp, to find out what ruling will apply in my case. The immigration staff explained very clearly that I can apply for the next five years as an extension which is done with one form posing 16 questions most of which referred to my passport, and after that I will need an agent to apply for renewal for the next 10 years. They also said that I must leave a minimum bank deposit of RM 90,000 using the rest for; property purchase, children’s education or health expenditure.
I hope this information is helpful to the reader.
